Tampines Central 7 5-room BTO [1]

February 4, 2015

This fun-loving young couple requested for mildly Scandinavian-Industrial look. A general white and pale paint scheme matched with light wood-accented floor tiles complements the edgier aluminium kitchen enclosure. We specially love how the mellow gray wall brings out the black aluminium grilles at the dining area. Darker hues were selected for the room floors and the study room boasts a pale turquoise feature wall to enhance flow of creativity and imagination.

Wood-accented homogeneous floor tiles give a natural outlook without compromising on ease of maintenance. Walls were re-plastered before painted white to even out the roughness common in HDB flats. The kitchen is open-concept with the customization of a low cantilever serving counter. The result is a clean and simple home.

In this condo unit decked in Scandinavian-industrial feel, Nippon Momentos paint is used to create the feature accent wall. The bar counter is cladded in rustic, barnyard-like laminate panels, and sturdy ceiling shelves are supported by black powder-coated piping. One room is also converted into a dressing room with full height sliding cum casement wardrobe.

To achieve raw industrial look, the Craftstone feature wall was intentionally made unfinished through careful partial hacking and screeding. Exposed black round conduits were chosen for the walls and ceilings. The kitchen is kept simple with minimal shelving and use of the clean Kompactplus table top.

When you have a kid, storage space is never enough. A full-height storage TV console was customized just for that. The household shelter at the kitchen is cleverly concealed in a seamless design incorporating the oven and adjacent shoe cabinet.

A specially designed TV console cum storage cabinets of white, brown and beige gives the living room a very tranquilizing feel. The wooden borders and straight lines are not only aesthetically pleasing but also double up as handles to access the storage space.

The kitchen is often the heart of a house and this BTO is brightened up with the vibrant yellow high-shine laminates used in the kitchen area, while the adjacent areas are kept neutrally-coloured. Glass doors to the kitchen and full-height mirror against the dining table create openness and bounce off the cheerfulness of the kitchen. A wall between 2 bedrooms was demolished for a larger Master Bedroom, where the young couple can work while supervising their child at the same time.

The highlight of this EC is the aquarium-cabinet which can be viewed from the living space. Complemented by soft lighting, the water feature evokes sense of tranquility and surrealism. In the bedrooms, a bay window space is fused to form a raised platform, cleverly maximizing the space for ample storage space for bulky items. The top of the platform steps includes an element of surprise – a lid supported by hydraulic action offers a storage compartment. Custom-built raised platform and bed frame are illuminated with recessed light to conjure a soft and floating effect.

The living area has a slight country feel as a result of the TV console integrated with CraftStone feature wall. The back of the wall was structurally reinforced and fixed with a layer of wall panel to hide the suspended TV’s electrical wirings and cabling. In the study room, the work table is integrated with a sturdy full-height storage to stash away the doctor couple’s thick medical books. It also features a piece of glass whiteboard handy for important notes and messages.
